Painting Demonstration

Demonstration stages of ‘Buachaille Etive Mor, Glencoe’. The Warm winter glows are captured with large and small palette knives accentuating the glory of this beautiful Scottish landmark. A large statement piece of art for any room. 100x70 cms oil thick sided box canvas with no need to frame as painted at the sides.

Winsor and Newton oil paint. Colours used: titanium white, cad red, cad red deep, brilliant rose, burnt sienna, burnt umber, ivory black, cad orange, alizarin crimson, lemon yellow, light blue, thalo blue, sap green, light green. Method: Thin flat brush ghost painting sketch of scene, slow build up of layers to get brain into the painting, gradual ‘fat over lean’ addition of first muted colours to maintain feel for the overall scene, finishing off with large and small knives to move thicker paint around and finally turning in the lights with brilliant bright streaks to make the scene an expressive loose capture. Painting thoughts: Always keep the brain engaged with the final scene otherwise frustration sets in during build up.
